In the debut of the MCCM we had 5 face-to-face meetings, all on Saturdays, in the Santo André campus of the Universidade Federal do ABC, where our dear science girls were able to get familiar with the college space and talk about the most diverse and exciting subjects with scientists!
In total, we had the participation of 50 science girls, students from the final years of Elementary School (6th to 9th grade), from all the ABCD region, located in the state of São Paulo (SP). We also had the participation of 21 monitors, undergraduate and graduate students from UFABC as well as from other universities in SP.
The lectures at the event were given by scientists who are a reference in their research areas, from the most diverse areas such as: Oceanography, Microbiology, Paleontology, Astronomy, Chemistry, Astrobiology, Mathematics, Physics, Education and History of Science and Philosophy.
In addition, we had cultural activities provided by our partners from the Companhia Delas de Teatro (Cia Delas) with the theatrical play "Mary and the Sea Monsters", a play that introduces the audience to the 18th century British paleontologist Mary Anning. We also had the presence of the "Donas da Rua" characters, an initiative of Maurício de Souza Productions Turma da Mônica (Monica's Gang) , which aims to work towards equality between boys and girls.
It was a great pleasure to welcome these girls and show them a little bit of the incredible world of possibilities that science is.
